Crown Castle Announces Chief Information Officer
“Steve’s experiences and his vision of the future course of information technology will increase Crown Castle’s competitive position in the industry. As wireless carriers migrate to third-generation technologies, Steve will help ensure that Crown Castle’s state of the art information technology infrastructure is positioned to assist our customers with rapid deployments,” said John Kelly, President and Chief Operating Officer of Crown Castle. Mr. Schmitt joins Crown Castle from Marconi PLC, an $8 billion manufacturer of broadband telecommunications equipment based in London. He served as Vice President of Supply Chain E-Business and was responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s supply chain management e-business systems. Prior to being acquired by Marconi, Schmitt was Vice President of Information Technology for FORE Systems, a Pittsburgh based supplier of high-speed networking equipment. Mr. Schmitt received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Robert Morris College and his master’s degree in public management from Carnegie Mellon University.
Crown Castle also announced that Jerry Vogl has been named Vice President of New Business Integration. Mr. Vogl started with Crown Castle since 1998 and previously served as Vice President of Information Technology –US Operations and Director of Information Technology-UK Operations. In his new role, Mr. Vogl is responsible for the integration of acquisitions and the direction of infrastructure start-up activities for new global businesses which involves the integration of all business-level processes and data within newly acquired enterprises and between CCIC and its subsidiaries.
When making the announcement, Kelly stated, “Mr. Vogl’s familiarity with all aspects of Crown Castle’s global operations make him ideally suited for this position.
