Crown Castle Board of Directors Names CEO Miller as New Chairman

JUNE 1, 1999 -- HOUSTON -- Crown Castle International's (NASDAQ:TWRS) Board of Directors announced today that it has named Ted B. Miller, Jr., age 47, as Chairman. Mr. Miller, who is also Chief Executive Officer, succeeds Carl Ferenbach, who was named Lead Director. Mr. Ferenbach has been Chairman and an outside Board member since April 1997.

"Carl Ferenbach's strong leadership has been, and will continue to be, an essential component in leading Crown Castle's rapid growth," stated Mr. Miller. "His wisdom and tenacity have set a solid course for our Board, which is 70 percent comprised of outside Directors."

"Following our recent large tower transactions and the $1.2 billion raised from financings since last August, the Board is recognizing Mr. Miller's strong leadership and development capabilities by naming him Chairman," added Mr. Ferenbach. "The Board is highly supportive of Ted's vision for the Company and very appreciative of the quality and depth of the management team that he has attracted to the Company."
