HOUSTON, Aug 27, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI) announced today that the Board of Directors has appointed Ari Q. Fitzgerald, age 39, as a director, filling a vacant position on the board. With the appointment of Mr. Fitzgerald, Crown Castle has ten directors on its board, of which nine are independent directors as defined by the New York Stock Exchange.

Mr. Fitzgerald is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan & Hartson L.L.P., and a member of the firm's communications group. He concentrates on wireless, international and Internet-related issues. Previously while with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Mr. Fitzgerald served for nearly three years as Legal Advisor to the FCC's former Chairman, William Kennard. In that position, he advised the Chairman on wireless, international and spectrum management issues. Mr. Fitzgerald later served as Deputy Chief of the FCC's International Bureau, overseeing the development of FCC policies on international telecommunications, foreign ownership and other related issues.

Prior to working at the FCC, Mr. Fitzgerald served in a variety of governmental and corporate roles including as an attorney in the Office of Legal Counsel of the U.S. Department of Justice, Legal Counsel to former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley, an attorney with the law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell and as a financial analyst in the corporate finance department of a New York investment bank before entering law school.

In 1984, Mr. Fitzgerald graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with an undergraduate degree in Social Studies. He received his J.D. from Yale University Law School in 1990.

Mr. Fitzgerald is a member of the Bars of the District of Columbia, New York and Connecticut and the Federal Communications Bar Association. He is a member of the board of the Harvard Club of Washington and several other non- profit organizations in the Washington, D.C. area.
