John Kelly Named President of Crown Communications; Three New Vice Presidents Appointed

Holly Groschner, John Powers, Jed Fawaz Join Staff as Vice President / Legal Counsel, Vice President of Crown Regional Markets, and Vice President of Engineering and Operations

Pittsburgh, PA – January 18, 1998 – Crown Communications, the domestic operating subsidiary of Crown Castle International Corp. ("CCIC"), announced that John P. Kelly has been named President of the Company and Chief Operating Officer, with responsibility for Crown Communication’s operations. Founder Robert Crown will assume the new role of Chairman, where he will focus on guiding the Company’s long term strategy. Robert Crown stated, "The Company continues to grow rapidly and will double the number of towers we own, operate, and manage when our recently announced joint venture with Bell Atlantic Mobile is completed. I have worked closely with John since July, and can now confidently shift my focus to guiding the Company’s future strategy." John Kelly joined Crown Communications in July 1998 from Atlantic Cellular Company, and has been serving as the Company’s chief operating officer.

The Company also announced the following additions to its senior management team.

John Powers To Lead Crown Regional Markets

John Powers, formerly of Motorola, has been appointed Vice President of Crown Regional Markets. Mr. Powers will be responsible for establishing, enhancing and managing regional sales and operations offices in major markets nationwide where Crown has significant clusters of Crown-owned towers. At Motorola, Mr. Powers was Senior Director of Sales and Operations for the Cellular Infrastructure Sector. "John’s experience in building out over 200 cellular markets and his strong relationships with the major domestic cellular carriers will be a major asset in helping us continue to strengthen our ties with this important part of our customer base" John Kelly stated.

Holly Ernst Groschner To Serve As Vice President / Legal Counsel

Holly Ernst Groschner has joined the Company as Vice President / Legal Counsel and will be responsible for the Company’s legal, real estate, regulatory and licensing activities. Prior to joining Crown Communications, Ms. Groschner was Director at Downs Rachlin and Martin, PLLC, a Northeast regional law firm where her practice areas included telecommunications regulation, land use permitting, and commercial law. John Kelly noted, "Holly has been heavily involved in wireless regulatory and real estate issues for nearly a decade. Her experience will enable us to more effectively manage our significant, and rapidly growing lease and license portfolio"

Jed Fawaz to Head Engineering and Operations

Jed Fawaz has joined Crown Communications as Vice President of Engineering and Operations. Mr. Fawaz will be responsible for the engineering of Crown’s tower network and for developing and enhancing Crown’s Network Operations Center, its microwave radio facilities, and its Technical Assistance Center. According to Mr. Kelly, "Jed’s prior experience as Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Atlantic Cellular and as head of western operations for GTE Wireless will help Crown Communications continue to provide our system operator clients with the level of expertise they expect from their strategic vendor."
